When was the last time you had a wheel alignment done on your car or truck?
- Recommended once a year
- You feel like the car is “pulling”.
- You struck a curb real hard
- You ran into a “pot hole”
- You drove over something going at highway speeds
- Your steering wheel is off center when driving straight
- Recommended when you buy new tires
Why should you get a wheel alignment?
A wheel alignment will make your tires last longer and your car will handle better and have better traction. Best of all, you will get better gas mileage.
How do I know if I need a wheel alignment?
Check the wear pattern on your tires, excessive wear on either the outside edge or the inside edge is a real good indicator your car is out of alignment.
Before taking your vehicle to the shop, check your tire pressure, uneven tire pressure can cause the vehicle to pull on one side. Always a good idea to eliminate this simple but often overlooked factor.
Some vehicles require only that the front wheels be aligned, but many car-based models and all all wheel drive (AWD) vehicles require four-wheel alignment.
Alignment specifications differ by vehicle, and it isn’t as simple as just making sure all four wheels are pointed straight ahead.
Alignments don’t cost much but they can save you a lot of money in the long run. Gas mileage and longer tire life equals monies saved.
On a final note, vibrations in your wheels are different from alignment problems. Vibrations are probably caused by wheels being out of balance or bent (potholes can do that) or because suspension parts are worn, and getting your wheels aligned won’t solve those problems.
